THE WORLD’S MOST SUSTAINABLE CROP

Hemp is an inherently sustainable crop, with multiple environmental benefits

Regenerative and sustainable agriculture in a variety of growing conditions – it all starts with hemp’s ability to replenish and aerate the soil, with rotations that return 70%+ of nutrients, making it one of the top 5 crops for biodiversity and bioremediation. Hemp is highly resilient and naturally resistant to fungi, insects, and disease, avoiding chemical and pesticide use and as a less water-intensive crop, in particular, compared to cotton, reduces water use and water pollution.

Nutritional and medicinal properties – it’s an ideal plant-based protein, with 20 amino acids, including 9 essentials, making it ideal for meat substitutes and seed fats that are almost entirely polyunsaturated. Cannabinoids are used to treat a wide variety of human and animal ailments.

Generates substantial biomass quickly – hemp has the highest biomass output of any agricultural crop, with high performing strains yielding 10 tons/acre 4x the biomass of timber in 90 days, compared to 20 years in tree growth.

Carbon negative benefits to global warming – provide a major solution towards zero carbon emissions through its CO 2 to biomass conversion. Hemp’s carbon sink captures 8-15 t/acre in 100 days vs a forest’s 2-6t/acre over 20+ years.

Substitution for traditional non-sustainable products – hemp is sought after by industries currently relying on petroleum-based products for its performance, cost, and sustainability characteristics, including hemp used for bioplastics and composites and for biofuels and more advanced bioproducts.
